Case Studies Glassware

City of London Distillery
Bespoke Glass

The City of London Distillery have an iconic brand, brilliantly reinforced by an entirely bespoke bottle. Rather than simply relying on a label, the bottle itself embodies key elements of the brand identity making it instantly recognisable and highly memorable. However, their gin was typically still being served in a generic glass, so much of that carefully crafted branding was lost once the drink was poured. The solution was to create a glass that took design cues from the bottle and thus significantly prolonged brand recognition.

Using the bottle as inspiration, various glass designs were presented to the client, initially as 3D renders. From there a CAD drawing was created for their preferred option, and this in turn was used to create a rapid prototype by 3D printing. This 3D printed model of the glass allowed the client to hold the glass, make sure it was right and approve the final design.

With the design and sample approved, manufacture could begin. Using our extensive knowledge of glass manufacturers, we identified a supplier who was able to produce both mouth-blown, handmade and machine manufactured glass. This provided maximum flexibility as to how the glass could be branded, while also allowing for a low minimum order quantity, meeting the client’s volume needs.

The outcome of the creative and production process was a totally bespoke highball glass incorporating the bottle’s iconography, shape and even the unique blue colour. It is a solution that perfectly represents the brand – a fantastic receptacle for a fabulous beverage!

SLYDOG SPICED RUM
Bespoke 70cl Bottle

We designed, developed, and produced a 70cl bottle for SLYDOG Rum’s award-winning Spiced Rum that captures the brand’s bold and playful persona.

Our team, including our designer, worked closely with the client throughout the design and development process to create a completely bespoke bottle design that would meet their requirements; something that wasn’t too dissimilar in shape and proportion to their existing bottle, wasn’t overly decorated and would work with their existing branding.

We initially proposed five bespoke 70cl bottle shapes/profiles with a range of embossing options, working around their current design to ensure that the details were consistent with the brand’s identity – subtle and sly.

Following this initial proposal, we went back and forth with the client, tweaking the design until they were happy to produce the first 3D rapid prototype. The physical sample allowed the client to hold the bottle and get a sense of the scale, shape, and detail of the embossing.

Following some final tweaks to the embossed elements size and placement, the design was approved, and the glass samples were produced.

With the bottle design approved, we could move forward with selecting the closure, getting the iconic matte black spray right and the quality on the print. Following a round of final samples, the bottle was approved by a happy SLYDOG team.

The outcome is a completely custom bottle that encompasses the SLYDOG brand – the embossed details adding depth and character to the contemporary, squat apothecary-style bottle. It is a testament to our commitment to delivering a stand-out product that SLYDOG is proud to house their drinks!

Fentimans
Bespoke Stemmed Glass

The brief called for a glass that was a stylish hybrid of a Copa and spritz-style glass, resulting in genuine brand stand-out. While there were many options available in the market, it was concluded that a bespoke glass was the best solution. Working closely with the client, our design and account teams collaborated to refine their vision and narrow down the preferred design. The result was a premium glass with a high perceived value, featuring a solid-colored stem that enhanced it’s premium look and feel, and a distinct floral decal that seamlessly wrapped around the glass.

To produce the glass, we selected the ideal manufacturer from our roster of specialist glassware partners. Based in the Far East, this supplier enabled us to create a completely bespoke, handmade crystal glass with lower tooling costs and MOQs than would have been possible with an EU-based supplier. Throughout the sampling process, we worked closely with the manufacturer to refine and perfect the design.

Once the design was approved, two different sizes of the glass were sampled. This stage was integral to the project, as testing revealed that the etched-effect decal was not as visible as desired when the glass was filled. By changing the decal color to a solid white, the design was made to pop on the bowl of the glass, achieving the desired effect.
The secondary aspect of the project involved packaging. The glasses needed to be packed in sets of six, along with 10 menus in each pack, ready for mail distribution. This packaging was completed at the source to save costs and eliminate additional handling time in the UK. The orders were then shipped to one of our logistics partners in the UK, ready for call-off and distribution.

This collaboration delivered a unique glass and logistics solution that met Fentimans’ needs and budget. Building on this success, we have since designed and developed a matching prosecco glass and highball glass to expand their collection.
